The excitement escalates with promises of cash and a planned out future;
Parties are planted and the seeds grow in number,
Until every day is a new chance for drink, for dance, for music,
For peer-pressured decisions.
At the climax of the mark of a new beginning the celebrations of mediocrity
Develop in size and explode in importance,
Until every person is involved because, what a sin it would be
Not to be there.
The denouement unravels with a breath of weight-lifting relief, but wait:
The festivities come to an abrupt and sudden end
And the real world calls for every person to move, to work, to pay,
To contribute to society.
In the aftermath of the drunken laughter and blinding flashes of party lights
The weight of responsibility comes crashing down
With the impact of a piano falling from a tense cable, everything scatters
Amongst clattering keys.
The stragglers are left floating in limbo under the assumption that they know nothing;
The action-takers are leaping on every opportunity
In feverish panic with too much rush, too much restlessness, too much fervour,
Transitioning simplicity to chaos.
The hunt for foundation and settlement and security is on in high competition,
Caught up in the flurry of planning too much
When there is no way to plan for the unknown, the uncertain, the predictable
And you can only decide to be.
